The Hermann Monument
in Detmold as measuring station for lightning strikes
The Herman Monument from Landesverband Lippe in Detmold is now also a subject of research. On July 2, 2012, the company Phoenix Contact installed lightning monitoring system consisting of three sensors as well as an evaluation unit at a height of 30 meters.
With its exposed position and the sword held up high, the Hermann Monument is virtually ideal to attract lightning strikes. The system collects and stores information on the number and intensity of lightning strikes and makes it available via the Internet.
